A company involved in franchising as an expansion model is often referred to as a franchise. A media franchise is a series of film/game/comic releases that are tied together with common characters or a common storyline.
Franchise is a business model. In government terms, franchise may also mean the granting of permission by a government to a service provider to use the public right-of-way. Examples, sewer pipes, water pipes, telecommunications passage, gas pipes, electrical lines, and garbage collection. Franchises may be exclusive (such as garbage collection where everyone receives refuse collection from the same company or agency) or nonexclusive (such as telecommunications from multiple carriers). Sport franchising means giving a sports club permanent rights to play in a specific league. This sport franchising concept is to sport structures granted by the governemnt in most of the countries of the world.
